Profile

All of Shakespeare's plays feature a number of other 'minor' characters alongside those that the play is focused on. Although they may not appear in many scenes or have a lot of lines, these characters are often essential to events within each play and help understand the more prominent characters. Even in Shakespeare's time, many actor's used to play more than one role. In The Merchant of Venice, these characters include Bassanio's servant Launcelot Gobbo, a venetian gentleman Salerio, the Duke at Antonio's trial, Shylock's friend Tubal and Launcelot's father Old Gobbo.

  2. About Tubal "a wealthy Hebrew of my tribe"

  3. About Duke "“The duke cannot deny the course of law: For the commodity that strangers have With us in Venice, if it be denied, Will much impeach the justice of his state”
